You're invited to Book Club at the NFSA in partnership with Canberra Writers Festival - a new series of screenings and discussions exploring how culturally significant books have been adapted and reimagined as films.Like the works of William Shakespeare, Jane Austen’s timeless novels are constantly studied, adapted and consumed afresh, by audiences of all ages.
Autumn de Wilde’s film adaptation is a playful contribution to the ever-growing Austen canon, starring Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) and Josh O’Connor (The Crown) alongside comedic giants Bill Nighy and Miranda Hart.
A joyous take on the much-loved classic, de Wilde’s Emma is a quippy romp of period frivolity that still delivers Austin’s sharp satire of Georgian high society.
The screening will be followed by a discussion of the film and the novel.
