Join the Swedish Historical Society of Rockford on Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 AM as we gather to discuss The Colony, written by Annika Norlin and translated into English by Alice E. Olsson. We’ll sip coffee, share thoughts, and dive into the book’s characters, plot, and themes. Whether you’re young or old, an avid reader or someone who hasn’t picked up a book in years—we hope you’ll enjoy this shared reading experience alongside fellow SHS members and non-members...all are welcome! Described as “a smart and moving look at society, nature, and community,” The Colony follows Emelie, a burnt-out city journalist who retreats to the woods and stumbles upon a secluded commune of seven misfits. Her arrival sends ripples through the group’s carefully ordered alternative society (Kirkus Reviews). The book is available online, at local bookstores, and through the Rockford Public Library. The audiobook is also a great option. To RSVP for the February Book Club Gathering, email [email protected] or call 815-963-5559. FREE event -- $5 suggested donation at the door.
