Bonds That Matter - Intersectional Voices in Chemistry Seminar Six

The series is designed to highlight the work of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) across the chemical sciences who hold intersectional identities. Our aim is to create a space where cutting-edge research and lived experiences are shared side by side.

All speakers are UK-based early-career chemical scientists within 8 years of their first academic appointment with intersectional identities. Join us as we hear their lived experiences and career journey whilst also connecting to peers through collaboration and networking. This event sponsored by Royal Society of Chemistry will be an in-person event.

Join us for a talk by Dr. Isabel Pazmiño-Mayorga who is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on the development of technologies to produce low-carbon fuels including hydrogen, methanol and ammonia. The core of the technology is chemical looping that is characterised by the ability to separate CO2 in situ.

In his talk, Dr. Pazmiño-Mayorga will give an overview of her career path within chemical engineering, with her current research steering technology development towards real needs and accounting for real constraints. In addition, Dr. Pazmiño-Mayorga is an international member of staff, originally from Ecuador, and became a mom three years ago. This combination of factors has made her rethink her pathway to impact through science communication, social enterprise and advocacy for parents and international members of staff, and she will share some of the insights and lessons that she has learned along the way.
