Bonds That Matter - Intersectional Voices in Chemistry Seminar Four

The series is designed to highlight the work of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) across the chemical sciences who hold intersectional identities. Our aim is to create a space where cutting-edge research and lived experiences are shared side by side.

All speakers are UK-based early-career chemical scientists within 8 years of their first academic appointment with intersectional identities. Join us as we hear their lived experiences and career journey whilst also connecting to peers through collaboration and networking. This event sponsored by Royal Society of Chemistry will be an in-person event.

Join us for a talk by Dr. Vinicius Diniz who is a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey. Dr Diniz's research operates at the nexus of Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, and Analytical Chemistry, focusing on designing advanced, sustainable systems for water purification. He engineers high-performance functional materials, such as inverse vulcanised Sulphur polymers, for use in both advanced water treatment and coating applications, with core expertise in sorption kinetics and process optimisation. Furthermore, Dr Diniz leverages novel technologies (e.g., sonolysis) to achieve the complete mineralisation of persistent pollutants (PFAS), supporting this process with rigorous analytical methods for environmental monitoring and contaminant prioritisation.

Dr Diniz will also share her career journey as an immigrant researcher and the first person in his family to obtain a higher education qualification. Join us for Dr Diniz's seminar, where he will highlight her research alongside his career journey and lived experiences.
