Warm up your winter with a boldly delicious, hands-on cooking experience that brings comfort food to a whole new level. Led by Chef Heidi Blacker, Bombin’ Ramen is all about big flavors, approachable techniques, and dishes worth sharing. We’ll begin with the heart of Korean home cooking: kimchi. In traditional Korean households, making kimchi was an all-day affair — a communal process where women gathered to prepare vats of this natural probiotic that would last families for months. In this workshop, you’ll learn a simplified, sugar-free version designed for modern home cooks who don’t have all day to spend with cabbage. Plant-based is optional, and you’ll take home your own 8oz jar to ferment and enjoy. Next, you’ll master scallion pancakes with a crave-worthy dipping sauce, Crispy, chewy, and perfect for snacking while you cook.
Then comes the star of the class: Bombin’ Ramen. Start with the classic Asian combo of garlic, ginger, tamari, rice vinegar, and sugar. Then fuse it with the either pork or tofu and tomato sauce to create a broth that’s deeply savory and totally unique. You’ll build your bowl from the broth up, finishing with jammy eggs crowned with furikake, a beloved Japanese condiment.
In this immersive session, you’ll learn to make three crowd-pleasing staples from scratch:
🥬 Kimchi (vegan, sugar free, dairy free)
🥢 Scallion Pancakes + Dipping Sauce (dairy free, vegetarian)
🍜 Bombin’ Ramen - pork or tofu, topped with jammy eggs and furikake (dairy-free, optional vegetarian)
Expect a relaxed, social atmosphere with plenty to taste along the way. Whether you’re a ramen lover or simply looking to shake up your kitchen routine, this class is designed to be as fun as it is delicious.
*This class is BYOB and guests over the age of 21 are invited to bring their drink of choice to enjoy during the class. Please note that we are not always able to accommodate all dietary restrictions.
About the Chef:
Chef Heidi Blacker was inspired to cook while working at the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, where she was exposed to many foods she never heard of. While living in New York City, she started a small catering business specializing in high-end cocktail and dinner parties. During the pandemic she started teaching cooking classes and lives to share kitchen hacks to spread the love as she endorses Jamie Oliver’s quote “cooking is the ultimate giving”. Always on the hunt for new flavor profiles, her cooking style is healthy, international comfort food with all the right elements of seasonality, presentation, quality, portion size and balance of flavor and texture.
