Sheri-Lee Turner-Krouzel, Co-Founder & Owner of 50th Parellel Estate Winery
Sheri-Lee Turner-Krouzel, an energetic marketing master, has held a multitude of roles throughout her vibrant career. As a natural-born leader with an unwavering entrepreneurial spirit, she earned her Degree in Commerce and went on to establish successful ventures in advertising, marketing, music, women's fitness, wine, fine dining, weddings, and events. Her own brand of infectious enthusiasm has been the driving force behind these achievements.
As the Co-Founder and Proprietress of 50th Parallel Estate Winery, Sheri-Lee's exceptional work ethic has proven invaluable. In 2008, just three days before their wedding, she and her husband, Curtis Krouzel, began to bring to life the dream they had been nurturing since their meeting in 2000. They officially took ownership of the land in 2009 and began farming. It was during this time that she coined the phrase "Glamour Farming," after planting the first vineyard block, which became the name of their iconic restaurant, BLOCK ONE.
With smile, she remarks, "Many people might believe that winery life is glamorous, but it couldn't be farther from the truth. It's hard work and farming that take precedence. There are no set hours or days off; you simply make it happen because there's no other option. Always believe in your dreams, and no matter the season or reason, just be yourself, be glamorous!"
50th Parallel Estate just celebrated its 15th anniversary and is now recognized as an internationally acclaimed winery, not only for its exceptional wines but also for its architectural design, culinary program, and luxury events. The accolades from critics and customers alike bolster this Boss Babe's aspirations to create a world-class facility. As she aptly puts it, "Never Miss A Chance To Sparkle."
Laurel Hogg, Partner, Rush Ihas Hardwick LLP
Laurel is a partner at Rush Ihas Hardwick LLP, practicing primarily in family law. The mainstay of her practice includes the full spectrum of legal issues arising out of separation and divorce. Laurel’s strengths lie in high-net worth asset division, often complicated by corporate structures, multiple income streams, and other vehicles for holding and passing family property. She earned this proficiency by way of significant experience representing clients in commercial and intellectual property disputes in the technology, finance, and pharmaceutical industries.
Prior to joining Rush Ihas Hardwick LLP, Laurel worked as a lawyer for several years in Toronto, Ontario, both at a leading litigation boutique and, later, a national law firm. She is dedicated to community service, having worked as an on-call coroner for the BC Coroner Service in Kelowna and maintained a seat on various boards of governance, committees and councils over the last several years, including the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce, Provincial Council of the Canadian Bar Association and Kelowna Child Advocacy Centre. Laurel is also a contributor to two continuing legal education publications.
In her spare time, Laurel enjoys trail running with her Dog Milo, practicing muay thai boxing and generally being in the beautiful outdoors of the Okanagan.
Tracey Valmassoi, Area Director, Northern Interior Community Corrections Correctional Service of Canada, Pacific Region
Tracey graduated from the University of Windsor (Windsor, ON) in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Anthropology and a minor in English. While Tracey’s family remain in Windsor, they enjoy regular visits with her out west (and she occasionally enjoys her visits back home). Tracey moved to White Rock, BC in May 2005 from Windsor and relocated to Lake Country, BC in April 2018, following her appointment as Area Director for the Northern Interior Community Corrections. She resides with her partner, and number one fan, Clint. Like many of us living in the Okanagan, Tracey, her partner, and their close network of friends, spend their spare time enjoying the wineries, restaurants, breweries, lakes, trails and mountains of this beautiful corner of BC.
Tracey has been working in the criminal justice field since 1998. She started her career in 2000 working as a Correctional Officer at the Windsor J*il, a maximum-security J*il operated by Ontario Provincial Corrections. During this time, she also worked in child protection in intake and investigations in Windsor.
Prior to beginning her career with the Correctional Service of Canada, she moved to BC and worked briefly as a Correctional Officer at Surrey Pre-Trial Services Centre operated by BC Corrections – Adult Custody. In late 2005, she was hired as a Primary Worker at Fraser Valley Institution for Women, a multi-level federal penitentiary for women located in Abbotsford, BC.
In 2006, Tracey began working as an Institutional Parole Officer and held various positions at Fraser Valley Institution and Pacific Institution, also a multi-level federal penitentiary in Abbotsford. In 2008, Tracey was appointed to the position of Manager, Assessment & Intervention (MAI) at Pacific Institution and held positions in the intake unit and Regional Treatment Centre. During her years at Pacific Institution Tracey acted for significant periods of time as the Assistant Warden Interventions and Assistant Warden Management Services.
In 2016, Tracey accepted an assignment to Metro Vancouver East Community Corrections in Surrey as a Parole Officer Supervisor. She also acted as Area Director in Surrey and as the Associate District Director for the Pacific District until her appointment as Area Director in the Northern Interior in April 2018.
As Area Director, Tracey is responsible for the oversight of all federal offenders and provincial parolees on conditional release in the Northern Interior of BC and the Yukon; the operations of three federal parole offices (Kelowna, Kamloops and Prince George); and contracts with community partners such as non-profit organizations that operate accommodation facilities to house our federal offenders.
She is currently on assignment in the Health Services sector of her organization managing the community mental health portfolio and clinical health services at William Head Institution, a minimum-security institution on Vancouver Island.
