Boiler Funk — Funk Retrô
About this Event
Boiler Funk is a Brazilian funk party built around one simple idea: the DJ doesn't belong on a stage.
There's no riser, no booth up front, no barrier between the person playing and the people dancing. The setup goes right in the middle of the room and the crowd forms around it. You're not watching a show — you're standing in it. That's where the name comes from.
The music is funk from 2000 to 2016. The era of tamborzão, of proibidão, of montagens, of the tracks that came out of the bailes in Rio and São Paulo and ended up on every phone in the country. Funk carioca, funk ostentação, funk melody. The songs everybody already knows the words to, played loud, for people who don't need to be told when to sing.
This is the sound a whole generation of Brazilians grew up on, and it doesn't get played properly outside Brazil very often. That's the point of the night.
You don't have to be Brazilian to be there. If you like heavy, fast, bass-driven dance music with a crowd that actually knows how to move to it, you'll be fine.
Brought to you by Baile da Zaza — the biggest Brazilian funk party in Canada.
