JOSO TRAIL RUN – BOHEMIA MINES & HISTORIC NOONDAY TRAIL! ⛏️
Saturday, November 7, 2026
A Journey Through History and Adventure!
Jeeps of Southern Oregon is heading north for an exciting adventure into the historic Bohemia Mining District, located in the mountains southeast of Cottage Grove!
First, we apologize for the short notice! This is a run we've been wanting to put together, and rather than push it into next year, we decided to squeeze it in before winter weather closes off the higher elevations.
This is going to be a LONG day, but one we believe will be well worth the trip!
A LITTLE HISTORY
Gold was discovered in the Bohemia Mountains in 1863, setting off a mining boom that brought prospectors into the rugged Cascade Mountains.
The district became one of Oregon's historic gold-mining areas, with mines, settlements, wagon roads, and equipment scattered throughout the mountains.
We'll be traveling through an area where miners worked more than 100 years ago, surrounded by remnants of Oregon's gold-rush history!
THE NOONDAY TRAIL
One of the highlights of this adventure will be exploring the historic Noonday Wagon Road Trail, originally constructed in 1896 to transport supplies and equipment into the mining district.
This trail offers a little bit of everything we Jeep enthusiasts love!
Beautiful forest scenery
Mountain climbs and incredible views
Rocky sections and uneven terrain
Narrow trails, switchbacks, and challenging sections
Historic mining sites and remnants of the past
The Noonday Trail follows portions of the original wagon route used by miners more than a century ago. Imagine hauling heavy mining equipment through these mountains with horses and wagons!
We'll experience some of that rugged country ourselves, although with a few more horsepower!
📍 MEETING LOCATION & SCHEDULE
Central Point – Pilot Travel Center
Meet: 6:45 AM
Departure: 7:00 AM SHARP
We'll caravan north to Cottage Grove and then make our way into the mountains.
Estimated return to Cottage Grove: 4:00 PM
Please remember that we still have the drive back to Southern Oregon afterward, so plan accordingly.
WHAT TO BRING
Full tank of fuel
Lunch, snacks, and plenty of water
Warm clothing and rain gear
Recovery equipment
GMRS radio if available
Camera for some great pictures!
A sense of adventure!
TRAIL CONDITIONS
This is mountain wheeling in November! Conditions can change quickly, and we could encounter mud, wet rocks, or even early-season snow.
We recommend Jeeps with good ground clearance, appropriate off-road tires, and drivers comfortable with moderate trail challenges.
Our route will depend on trail conditions and accessibility.
WHY YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS ONE!
One of the things we love about JOSO is the opportunity to explore places we might never visit on our own.
This run combines Jeep adventure, beautiful mountain scenery, and some fascinating Oregon history.
Yes, it's an early start. Yes, it's a long drive. But some of the best adventures require a little extra effort!
And as always, we travel together, help each other, and leave nobody behind!
WHO'S READY TO EXPLORE SOME OREGON GOLD-MINING HISTORY?
Please mark yourself GOING if you plan to join us so we can get a good headcount!
