What is BODY MEDIUM?

BODY MEDIUM is a painting technique developed by artist Annika Rhea, which uses the body as a paintbrush and motion as the strokes. This empowering technique promotes creativity, body awareness and confidence in one’s authentic creative self.

In this 2.5 masterclass you will:

1) Explore your body's ability to move freely and authentically though space

2) Learn about color mixing and visual composition

3) Learn movement based painting techniques

4) Explore and expand your creative practice

3) Create your own large-scale painting (6ft by 7ft) and painted outfit to take home

4) Have an fun, unique and unforgettable experience

What to bring:

1) Clothes to paint in. Please note that the paint won't come out of the clothes but you can have them dry and wear them again.

2) A towel. Some of you may need to use one of the provided camping showers to wash off the paint from your body if you get fully immersed. We will provide rags for the initial clean up but please bring a towel (preferably an older one) to dry yourself with after the shower.

3) A hair elastic if you have long hair and would prefer to protect it from the paint.

4) A tripod and camera or cell phone if you would like to record your personal painting process.

All other materials will be provided.

About your instructor:

Annika Rhea is a multidisciplinary artist, painter and creativity coach based out of Brooklyn, NY. She is the creator of BODY MEDIUM, a technique where she uses her body as a paintbrush, motion as the strokes and the canvas as a stage. Her work merges visual art, performance art and video art. Ms. Rhea is a process-oriented artist and is inspired by the relationship between motion, color, rhythm and emotion and her work ranges from painting the embodiment of a concept or emotional state to painting her interpretation of musical score.

Rhea has had nearly 100 dance-painting performances globally, including solo shows and featured performances at Miami Art Week, Scope Art Fair, Art Basel Switzerland, Hamptons Fine Art Fair, Clio Art Fair, Art With Me Miami, Box Factory Gallery, and Brooklyn Fashion Week.
