About this Event
Body Agency is a series of movement workshops that explore the themes of personal power.
Our sense of agency is rooted in histories, our experiences in society, and the roles assigned onto our bodies. Yet there is also an inward-outward directionality - where power comes from deep within and we can act on our world. And there are the mirrors of a supportive community that may help re-ignite our inner fire.
The tools are movement, dance, and language. Our ressources are the space, the group, music. Somatics and dance invite us to experience the perceptual and sensory layers of agency. How do we feel power in our bodies? When and where does it rise? How does our presence re/claim shared space?
Not to dominate, or to prove, but to creatively be with each other.
-
Somatics are here to ground us into our body and earth. Dance gives space for feeling, and through this feeling an inner place of freedom may open. From this opening, we may find a way to our unique agency: a felt sense of choice and action.

Mytam Mayo-Smith, facilitator
@tidal.rythms, www.mytam-mayosmith.com
Mytam is a Vietnamese & U.S. dancer, collaborator, and facilitator based in Paris. Her work cultivates shared moments where presence, sensitivity, and creativity converge, holding space for reflection on culture, perception, and connection. She holds a BA in Environmental Studies from New York University, with a minor in Social and Cultural Analysis and French, and a Master of Science in Learning Sciences from Université Paris Cité, where her research focused on collective trauma and somatic healing.
Trained in contemporary and modern jazz, her practice is rooted in improvisation—using movement as a way to explore story, emotion, and embodied expression. She is currently training as a dance–movement therapist in the Création Artistique master’s program at Université Paris Cité.
General guidelines :
- This space values nonjudgment, compassion and deep listening between one another.
- You can always take a break during the dance, or not participate in a suggested movement exercise. Listening to your own boundaries is important, and it's a practice.
- There may be physical contact between participants, only if there is mutual consent in the moment.
Note: This workshop does not require movement or dance experience, but it does encourage an oppenness and curiosity to movement. Another important aspect is safety: we move from where we feel safe first and do not force ourselves into places of emotional or physical pain.
