Registration and Activity Information – Bodmin Moor Fun Ride
General Participation Information
• Fantastic opportunity to ride your horse/pony on Bodmin Moor, starting and finishing in St. Breward! This information is provided to help you, the Participant, to enjoy the Activity as much as possible! Please do try and look out for each other and assist each other where possible. 😊
• This fun ride is organised by St Breward Carnival Association; a voluntary association. St Breward Carnival does not provide liability insurance for Participants. To take part in the Activity, Participants should have their own insurance, and will read and sign a disclaimer, confirming that you have understood and accept the content. Young Participants (under the age of 18) must be accompanied by a parent/guardian/responsible adult and the form must be signed on their behalf.
• The Activity has been organised with the kind permission of the common landowners/tenants of the area of Bodmin Moor. Bodmin Moor is registered as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; therefore, Participants must respect the environment and not discard of any litter or other debris that may be a danger or of nuisance to the inhabitants and caretakers.
• The Activity is taking place on moorland, a grassy area where the surface can vary depending on the weather (for example, hard, soft, slippery, boggy, floating land/grass), and also contains gorse bushes, granite stones/boulders etc.
• The Activity is taking place on an area where there will be other people and animals/wildlife present and entitled to be in the area, (e.g. farmers/caretakers, moorland ponies, cattle, sheep, deer, foxes, rabbits, etc).
Safety Rules
• You will have access to a mobile telephone in case of an emergency. You will record the name and number of the main Activity contact (NAME, CONTACT NUMBER GIVEN ON THE DAY) and will contact NAME regarding all incidents and/or any safety concerns.
• You will listen to and follow the instructions of the Activity organisers and marshalls. You will adhere to the rules and keep your horse/s or pony/ies under necessary control and will withdraw from the Activity if this is not possible. By registering for the Activity, you confirm that you are fit and healthy to take part in the Activity. We reserve the right to refuse and/or refund entry to anyone who we deem may be a potential concern.
• In the event of an emergency, you must phone the Emergency Services (dial 999) first; then phone Kerry when safe to do so. In case of a mobile phone signal ‘black-spot’, head back to the nearest marshalled point, navigating using the flags or What3Words.
• You will wear/display coats/bands/notices provided. You will follow the designated routes which are highlighted by flag poles. You must slow down to walk pace and check-in at all marshalled checkpoints. Please use the What3Words to navigate to the checkpoints if you can’t see the flags or get lost.
• You must remain at a walking pace for the first and last mile (first mile indicated by the first checkpoint at Irish’s, and last mile from the granite signpost at Colan’s Cross); this is a combined area for all routes including potential lead-rein rides, which will largely be used by young/inexperienced riders and horses.
• You will need to both cross and use unclassified roads during the Activity and ensure that you take all measures to do so safely.
• You will respect the environment and other moorland users, including animals/wildlife and people present. No dogs to accompany horse rider participants in the Fun Ride, thank you.
• You will provide/bring necessary safety equipment and supplies for the Activity e.g. water/food, weather protection (e.g. sun protection, waterproof clothing etc), personal protective equipment (e.g. riding hats, protective vests etc), personal medical supplies (e.g. first aid kit, personal and/or allergy medication).
Optional Jumps/Trotting Poles
To add to your enjoyment of the Activity, optional jumps/trotting poles etc (additional Activities) are placed at various locations along the routes. You are voluntarily undertaking these and assume all risk. These will only be undertaken once you have assessed and decided for yourself that you are satisfied with the set-up.
Care will be taken to ensure that these additional Activities are situated in the most suitable location available; for example, additional Activities will be near to roads/tracks accessible by vehicles to enable best possible emergency access if an incident happens. You must ensure that willing participation in these additional Activities does not endanger yourself, your horse/pony or other Participants.
Data Privacy Notice: Photography/Images
Photos and/or video footage may be taken of Participants and animals and may be used for publicity purposes for an indefinite period. The images may be used for printed publications (e.g. leaflets, newspapers etc) or on the internet (e.g. websites, social media etc). If you (or Participant’s parent/guardian/etc) do not wish for photos/images to be taken, please highlight this at registration and appropriate measures will be put in place. Questions can be directed to [email protected]
However, as it is a public area, we are unfortunately unable to regulate freelance photographers that may be present and active.
Finally...
Please be safe, friendly, polite and helpful to other Participants and volunteers, and most importantly have fun!!! 😊
