Art As Therapy: Reflect & Create
On October 24th Black Out Nights at the NAC is collaborating with in Bloom Space and BOC Kids to offer an opportunity for youth 12 and up to attend an interactive workshop while parents/guardians attend BLKDOG by Botis Seva.
Workshop Description:
This workshop provides an engaging and reflective space for youth to explore art as a tool for personal expression and healing. Through fun and interactive activities like a movement-based Twister-style game, coloring masks to express emotions, and contributing to a collective collage, participants will explore how movement, color, and creativity can help them connect with their inner thoughts and feelings. The workshop emphasizes self-discovery, empowerment, and the therapeutic power of art, offering a supportive and creative environment for youth to reflect and grow.
BLKDOG Description:
BLKDOG, a poignant hip hop dance theatre production, encourages us to be tamers of our memories and our personal and collective trauma in an ultimate quest for acceptance and peace. Both of-the-moment and timeless, the work transcends cultural barriers to inspire universal dialogue. BLKDOG is the first hip hop show ever to win the prestigious Olivier Award. Its resonance with audiences of different backgrounds is a testament to its exceptional artistry and universally relevant themes. Far From The Norm's Artistic Director Botis Seva brings together artists with a range of dance styles to create a variety of movement language that unites Popping, Breaking, Krump and House. The company creates work that empowers marginalized people while inspiring audiences around the world.
Ticket Pricing:
Tickets are $40.00 and include access to the workshop for one child and one ticket to the main show. Additional children can be added for $5.00 each. And all registrants are welcome to join the post show reception in the Peter Hendorff Place.
