About this Event
EDINBURGH ZEUHL + SONICALLY DEPICTING PRESENT
Bob Drake
Bob Drake will be playing his unpredictable little avant-pop tunes about planets, animals, planets and animals, holy wells, ringing bells, astronomy, haunted statues, geology fiction, uncanny occurrences, and other inexplicable phenomena.
Perpetually reinventing himself and ever pushing the boundaries of what's musically possible, his eldritch tunes, evocative musings and inventive instrumentations all come together in a dazzling kaleidoscopic swirl, creating a numinous otherworld like no other. Adventurous, enlightening, and FUN!
An idiosyncratic multi-instrumentalist / singer / lyricist and songwriter, Bob started playing instruments in, and recording bands in his native rural Midwest USA in the early 70’s. In 1978 he moved to Denver, where he became a noteworthy figure in the local DIY / post-punk scene.
Relocating to France in 1994, he has engineered and produced over 400 albums by obscure / independent artists from around the globe at his studio. Among others, he has recorded and performed with Peter Blegvad, Fred Frith, John Greaves, and Chris Cutler. A founding member of Thinking Plague and Hail, Bob has been involved in a multitude of other projects and has been a part of, or played and recorded with, 5uu's, The Science Group, AA Kismet, Vril, NIMBY, Bing Selfish and the Multiverts, The Capybaras, and many others.
As a solo artist, he has performed at Cardiacs’ Alphabet Business Convention in the UK, the Rock in Opposition festival in France, played scores of solo shows in the UK and France between 2016-2019, and did a European tour with his band Exovarmints in 2023. He released his first solo album in 1994, and the most recent – his 23rd – in 2023.
Bob is presenting an unmissable programme at The Waverley where each song is its own world.

“Bell Lungs”
is the moniker of Scottish-Turkish vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and creative facilitator Ceylan Hay.
A mesmeric voice pours into your ears, atop mellotron violin, fingerpicked guitar, omnichord drones, bowed chimes, field recordings & glitchy electronics. Drawing on psychedelic, free improvisation and folk influences, Bell Lungs creates transcendental atmospherically shifting soundscapes interspersed with snippets of songs, musing upon rural idylls, post-industrial heartlands and online dating.
Taking a freewheeling, magpie attitude to ambient, noise, free improvisation, psychedelia, jazz, post-rock, minimalism and folk, her music creates subtly shifting sound worlds drawing on natural cycles, environmental disaster and the microcosmic aspects of relationships. A vaguely obsessive instrument collector, she integrates vocals, strings, keys, tuned percussion and woodwinds into lushly textured layers and loops. However, it is her vocal mastery which is most striking, a resonant instrument acting as a conduit for the emotions, described in reviews as “disarming” and “vaulting”. She loves to tour, and has performed widely across Europe.
An interdisciplinary artist with an intuitive gift for sensitive collaboration, Ceylan frequently composes for theatre, dance and spoken word. She relishes performing in unusual locations including the top deck of a double decker bus circling the streets of Glasgow, a post-apocalyptic former sugar silo in Buffalo, NY, the oldest Tudor House in Sheffield, a boat cruising along Dover beach, and inside a hydroelectric power station situated deep within the bowels of Ben Cruachan in Argyll.

Raiments
Raiments will be playing new compositions with bow on guitar
Mano Camatsos is of Greek origin, born in South Africa with an upbringing fragmented across parts of the United States, Europe and South America. He began making music while studying film in Los Angeles, developing his style and production skills in Oxford and on his native island of Lesvos. He then stayed in Los Angeles and New York forming music groups as well as recording an urban ethnographic album documenting the Occupy Los Angeles protests. He eventually moved to Berlin to form a music group under the name of Raiments, and for four years played shows, festivals and concerts while producing three albums, featuring different constellations of guest players. Mano continues to perform as Raiments in Edinburgh and toured the UK in 2019, bringing his songs of ants and cats and sci fi tower blocks to the masses.
