An in-person workshop for nonprofit leaders ready to elevate board governance, build connection, and reenvision how boards work.
About this Event

This 3-hour in-person workshop is for nonprofit board and staff leaders who are ready to move beyond the basics of board governance and ask bigger, more honest questions about how their boards are actually working.

Many boards are operating from structures, meeting habits, decision-making practices, and recruitment patterns they inherited. Some of those practices may still be useful. Others may be slowing down the work, concentrating responsibility, limiting engagement, or keeping boards from being the kind of partners their organizations need.

Together, we will ask:

  • Why do we do things this way?
  • How do we make board service more meaningful?
  • How do we move from passive participation to real partnership?
  • How do we design board meetings that are actually useful?
  • How do we share responsibility without blurring roles?
  • How do we build a board that helps move the mission instead of slowing it down?

This workshop creates space to elevate and reenvision nonprofit governance for today’s realities. Together, participants will explore what it means to move toward more purpose-driven, power-conscious, values-aligned, and community-rooted board practices.

This workshop supports nonprofit leaders in moving from:

  • Boards as compliance bodies → Boards as mission stewards
  • Boards as supervisors → Boards as partners
  • Boards as gatekeepers → Boards as containers for shared power
  • Boards as barriers → Boards as engines for community-rooted impact

Participants will have space to reflect on their own board experience, learn from other nonprofit leaders, and consider how small and meaningful changes in meetings, structures, relationships, and decision-making practices can help boards better serve the mission, staff, and community.

Meet Abbey Davis, the facilitator leading this session, here.
