We are delighted to announce another fabulous concert as part of the South Town blues festival we are organising with our very good friends Southbound. Two fabulous local musicians will perform full sets (of around 45mins) and a couple of songs together for the very first time.

Abi Budgen

Songwriter, poet, Beatlemaniac, Sister Rosetta devotee and self-confessed country blues anorak, Abi's music is a beautiful explosion of everything that makes us human. Her innovative guitar style is born of a lifetime's love and study of traditional blues and gospel music, of which she is also an internationally respected teacher. Abi's song 'Cry' features on charity album 'Music Minds' alongside artists including Glenn Tilbrook, Graham Gouldman and Tom Robinson.

Andrew Higgins is a songwriter who once obsessed over musical detail—until he realised something essential: a song only reveals if its good or bad in front of an audience. So…having performed in many bands over the years, he decided to go out on the road solo, challenging himself to deliver his own material: a body of instinctive work that’s sonically diverse and which has gained him airtime on BBC Introducing and local radio.

Whether he’s composing and recording in his home studio or performing stripped-back acoustic sets with his trusty friend “Dr. Boss,” Andrew follows the musical flow: Mr Crow, written in memory of a lifelong friend, is a reflection on mortality. Justify, his most-streamed track, is an electronic collage that features conversation with his 98 year old mum as well as the haunting vocals of his life partner—who is his inspiration, and, curiously, something of a cult hit in Mexico.

Andrew finds rhythm in motion—often composing while out running or cycling, chasing melodies and lyrics through the steady tempo of his feet or the pedals.

Having seen some amazing acts at Temperance (Jack Broadbent being his favourite) he says it’s a real buzz to be playing Temperance as part of the Southtown Blues Festival on Saturday, May 9th 2026.
