Eden Brent
Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta port of Greenville, Eden Brent is a piano-pounding, juke-joint hollering powerhouse of American roots music. She honed her craft through a unique combination of formal education—earning a music theory degree in jazz and classical piano at the University of North Texas—and a transformative 16-year apprenticeship under legendary blues pianist Abie "Boogaloo" Ames. After launching her solo career, she burst onto the international stage by winning the International Blues Challenge in 2006. Her signature sound blends boogie-woogie with blues, jazz, soul, and gospel, drawing frequent comparisons to legends like Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, and Aretha Franklin. A celebrated songwriter, recording artist, and live entertainer, Brent has earned multiple Blues Music Awards—including the Pinetop Perkins Piano Player title and the Koko Taylor Traditional Blues Female Artist Award. Her discography spans several critically acclaimed albums on Yellow Dog Records, such as Mississippi Number One, Jigsaw Heart, and Getaway Blues. Whether performing at major international festivals like the Chicago Blues Festival, hosting piano bars aboard the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, or leading educational workshops, Brent continues to delight critics and fans worldwide while preserving and advancing the legacy of Mississippi blues.
