About Innes Sibun
Innes Sibun picked up the guitar at the age of 12 after hearing BB King on the radio, this moment changed his life. Whilst still at school Sibun was playing in bands playing anything from punk & reggae to jazz but blues was his main love.
His first breakthrough came in 1991 when legendary producer Mike Vernon produced his debut album “That’s what the blues can do” which was voted best blues album of the year by RTE in Ireland that year. His band toured throughout the UK & Europe & backed many U.S Bluesmen on their tours such as Johnny Adams & Wild child Butler.
In 1993 Innes was approached by Robert Plant & asked to join his band to tour his “Fate of nations” album which took in the USA, South America & Europe. During this tour he was able to meet & jam with some of his boyhood idols such as Buddy Guy & James Cotton.
In 1995 having left Robert’s band Innes signed a record deal with Viceroy records & recorded two albums for them which were well received in Europe & parts of the States. The band toured relentlessly & opened up for some of his heroes such as Peter Green, Ronnie Earl, Johnny Winter & Taj Mahal. He went on to make albums for Provogue records & Blues Boulevard.
Around this time Sibun also toured the USA with his own band as well as playing festivals in the States & Canada with American musicians & playing the Iridium jazz club for a Rory Gallagher tribute to promote the release of his Notes from San Francisco album, he also played at the Leadbelly festival at the Carnegie hall.
In 2018 he teamed up with Detroit born singer & song writer to form Malone Sibun, they recorded an album “Come together” which gained huge critical acclaim but became a victim of Covid which prevented them from promoting the album & touring it.
In November 2024 the mainly instrumental album The preacher was released by German label Sireena records, it has had some fantastic reviews in Guitarist magazine, Blues matters & Classic rock amongst others in the UK with many more in Germany. The album was co-produced by Charlie Jones ( Page/Plant, Goldfrapp, The Cult) & features him on bass alongside other ex-Robert Plant musicians Clive Deamer on drums & John Baggott on keyboards.
