When Elvis first sang those words in 1957, he was a man ahead of his time. For many, Christmas is a time of joy as we celebrate the birth of a savior with family and friends. However, when we are struggling with the loss of a loved one or reconciling ourselves to a new reality, joy may be replaced with the blues. If you feel out of touch with the holiday joy or have heaviness of heart over current events, come to our Blues Blue Christmas led by Revs. Sam and Kim on December 11 at 7PM. This service is so named because in addition to being a pastor, Rev. Kim is a blues musician, and she will lend her talents to this service. We will be led to discover new themes of the Christmas holiday through a series of readings, songs, and silence that speak to our pain and loss. This is open to all, so if you have friends or family members who could benefit from this service, please invite them.
Rev. Kim Capps is a retired United Methodist Pastor and a singer song-writer who fell in love with the blues many years ago. Her music is a blend of acoustic blues, gospel and other roots music, that emphasizes our need for deeper to connection to love, justice and compassion for ourselves and others. She has performed in a variety of churches and venues in the Metropolitan DC area. You can find her music on YouTube, spotify and most major stream services.
