In the approach to International Women’s Day 2027, step into a story of courage, defiance and the young women who refused to stay in their place.
It’s 1896, and at Girton College, Cambridge, the first in Britain to admit women, trailblazing students are fighting for something radical: the right to learn, to graduate, and to shape their own futures. They match their male peers grade for grade, lecture for lecture, ambition for ambition. Yet when the men leave with degrees, the women leave with nothing but a label: “blue stocking”, considered unnatural, unqualified, unmarriageable.
Written by Olivier Award winning playwright Jessica Swale, Blue Stockings is a moving, funny and eye‑opening reminder that progress is never given, it is won.
