Sean Hayes is a San Francisco Bay Area-based singer-songwriter known for a unique, gritty blend of folk, soul, and R&B-inflected roots music. His sound has been described as dusty, warm, and effortless, featuring a gravelly, soulful voice that blends intimate storytelling with danceable rhythms.
Hayes has collaborated and toured with artists including Aimee Mann, Frazey Ford, Charley Crockett, Jolie Holland, The Wood Brothers, Ani DiFranco and The Cold War Kids among many more; his work has been remixed by house DJ Mark Farina and featured on NPR, NBC and HBO. Known for his raw vocals and timeless songs, Hayes has built a loyal following across the country, whether stripped-down or with a full-band, his shows are simply a night of good music.
John Courage
This project began 25 years ago as a newly-made-solo acoustic artist, and the initial recordings made that summer laid the foundation for a lifetime in music to come. Through many incarnations, lineups, and supportive musicians, John Courage has been a constant in the Northern California music community. Not only as a songwriter, but also as a recording and touring support musician, producer, and engineer for many other bands and artists.
Perhaps chaotic times call for a relative quiet, here reflected in the songs collected for the album. The lone voice and guitar outline a wide universe of stories accumulated through years of travel, work, and dedication- from funerals to nostalgic glances in the rearview and a couple reworked tunes from years gone by.
“Decades” was recorded completely live, without overdubs, click track or pitch correction, giving the songs room to breathe in a natural performance captured over two days at White Whale Studios in Santa Rosa. In the most stripped back work John Courage has presented, it now seems as a sort of reintroduction- to a local artist reaching for a broader canvas to tell a story, or rather many stories - that span Decades.
