In the latter part of 2025, a group of deputies and the Sheriff, who are all musicians, were talking about
how it would be fun to get together and just have a general “jam session.” The Sheriff told them that
we should include Dwight Sanford, as he was a retired police officer from Ellijay PD and he might have a
good place that we could all get together. After some time, the Sheriff ran into Dwight at the
Courthouse and they talked about the idea and Dwight said, “say when.”
Finally, at the beginning of 2026, after several “we’re gonna come up one day” conversations, a date
was set. The sheriff told Dwight that we didn’t have a drummer, and Dwight said he knew someone. On
that early Spring Friday evening, the Sheriff, Frank Copeland went to Dwight’s house and met Jeff Welch
(the drummer) for the first time. Everyone got their guitars tuned up and plugged in and then spent the
next 30 minutes trying to figure out a song that everyone knew…….. Finally, we kicked off “That’s the
Way Love Goes” by Merle Haggard. It sounded pretty good and then we tried Mickey Gilley’s version of
“Stand By Me.” It sounded good too and for the next several hours and as excitement grew, the group
who had never played music together (except for Dwight and Jeff) cranked out several more songs that
“sounded pretty good.” And now they are ready to Debut at The Playhouse with two shows the weekend of Sept 11th. Get your tickets soon. They are selling fast.
