The Trail & District Arts Council presents Blue Moon at Monday Cinema on Monday, December 8 at 4 pm at The Royal Theatre in Trail.Legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart (Ethan Hawke) professional and private life unravel at the opening night party for his former partner's, Richard Rodgers’, (Andrew Scott) hit show Oklahoma!
As Hart holds court at Sardi’s on the historic night of his former collaborator’s success, his struggles with alcoholism and mental health come to the fore as he tries to accept Rodgers’ new partnership with Oscar Hammerstein. Hart and Rodgers affectionately spar throughout the night, working through the regrets in their partnership and promising to start anew.
With his stories on art, love and everything in between, Hart regales a plainspoken bartender (Bobby Cannavale) and a young, aspiring composer and military officer (Jonah Lees) about his current fixation Elizabeth (Margaret Qualley), whom he reveres with fervour.
In Blue Moon, director Richard Linklater crafts a riveting film set in 1943 with a charming, lived-in portrayal of Hart by Hawke and great performances from the rest of the cast.
”Ultimately, through Hart’s reflections on love, art, and legacy, the film becomes a bittersweet elegy for his overshadowed place in musical history — a graceful tribute to the man behind Pal Joey, A Connecticut Yankee, “My Funny Valentine,” and the titular “Blue Moon.”” - TIFF

“Ethan Hawke is charming and “overwhelming” in equal measure, a force of audacious, vibrating energy that thrums like a choir line vibrato. A witty, salacious biopic... Richard Linklater could attract award buzz for Hawke's witty, theatrical performance.” - David Opie, IndieWire
“Like a backstage pass for Broadway buffs, it’s one hell of a show for those in the know, and a sparkling introduction for the uninitiated.” - Peter Debruge, Variety
