This October 8-11, 2026, Justice Outside and Black in Marine Science are hosting the Blue Horizon Summit: Deep Waters, Shared Currents, a hybrid gathering in Tallahassee, Florida, that will convene grassroots leaders working at the intersection of environmental justice and marine science. The communities most affected by ocean degradation, coastal displacement, and environmental harm are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Their knowledge, leadership, and vision are defining the current path we are following.

Deep Waters, Shared Currents is a call to move beyond surface-level collaboration and into the deeper, collective work required to build lasting power. We'll explore how shared practice, trust, and solidarity across marine, outdoor, and environmental justice spaces strengthen our ability to protect one another, shift systems, and imagine more expansive futures. Grounded in community wisdom and collective care, this conference invites us to move with shared currents toward possibility, resilience, and change.
