Help the Burnaby Lake Weedbusters at Lenson!

We are working on our native wildflower meadow! BLPA volunteers will W**d out any invasive vegetation regrowth spreading in from the edges of the meadow, particularly any Creeping Buttercup, Bindweed, and Himalayan Blackberry. Any patches that have been wholely taken over by these invasives may be covered with more compostable coffee bags and fresh soil.

We will meet at the Lenson Garage. Please scroll down to see a map to precise location.

Tools and training will be provided.

This event will be limited to 15 volunteers.

  • If you are a new volunteer, please select the "New Volunteer" Ticket.
  • If you are a returning volunteer, please select the "Returning Volunteer" Ticket.

What to bring
  • Water bottle, and your work/garden gloves and tools if you prefer.
  • Dress for the weather - layers for the cold, rain or shade hat, clothes you don't mind getting dirty or torn (blackberry can be vicious), closed-toe sturdy shoes for the dirt & mud.
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses, if a bright clear day is forecasted.
  • Anything you need for your comfort and safety, e.g. Medic*tion, allergy pills, etc...

Location

We will meet at Lenson Garage, as shown on the map below.

  • If you drive or take transit and walk in, look for signs directing you to the site. There is a split rail fence to step over (there is one very low section to the right with a mown trail)
  • If you drive, please park in the Avalon Parking Lot and walk up the trail to the meeting location.
  • Volunteers should be prepared for the possibility of last minute cancellation or changes of stewardship events due to weather conditions.

If you would like detailed driving directions or how to get there by transit, click here.

*CONSTRUCTION NOTICE* - Please take note that if you are coming from the West, there is construction along Winston Street which includes single lane traffic that may add an additional 5 minutes to your trip. Details for the Winston Street Sewer project can be found here. We recommend taking Lougheed Highway east, then turn right at Brighton, left onto Winston, right on Cariboo, and then left on Avalon to the parking lot.

Everyone is welcome!
  • We welcome everyone, including people with disabilities, people who are Black, Indigenous or People of Color (BIPOC), and people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+).

Space is limited. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket so that someone else may attend.
