America loves hydrangeas! There are six popular species in New England, but what is the best for you? How do you care for them? Should they be cut back or not? Each species is unique. This presentation will explore the most popular varieties in each species and discuss care and maintenance of the various types from a personal perspective.
Jane Jeffers, the GCFM Northern District Director, is a self-proclaimed hydrangea enthusiast, designed her landscape around the plant but was disappointed by years of poor blooms. Seeking answers, she attended a 3-day hydrangea conference in 2015 at the Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich, MA, led by Dr. Michael Dirr and other experts, growers, and members of the Cape Cod Hydrangea Society. Today, Jane tends more than 60 hydrangeas, experimenting with new varieties, overwintering, and container planting. She will share insights from recent conferences, updates on new introductions, and tips on what has—and hasn’t—worked in her own gardens.
