Bloody Brilliant: Art & Science of What Runs Through Us

Join us for a unique workshop that brings art and science together, co-led by Cristina Brischetto, Ph.D. (Editor at Springer Nature) and Luján Cordaro (illustrator and art teacher). Together, they will guide you through the captivating world hidden inside every drop of blood.
This workshop is divided into two parts. In the first part, Cristina will introduce the science of blood—from red and white blood cells to one of the most informative, data-rich biological processes, the menstrual cycle—while sharing the stories of influential women scientists whose discoveries have shaped our understanding of the human body today. Expect fun facts, myth-busting, and a fresh, engaging way into topics that are too often left unspoken. In the second part, Luján will guide participants through watercolour techniques with live demonstrations, showing playful and easy effects to paint blood cells and more. Participants will then have the opportunity to translate what they've learned into their own artistic creations.
The workshop is designed to inspire scientists to explore art as a way of expressing their research, while also welcoming art enthusiasts who are curious about science and the body. It offers a unique space where both communities — and anyone curious about blood, cycles, and the women who studied them — can come together, learn from each other, and create.
No prior artistic experience is required—just curiosity and an open mind. Come discover how art and science can amplify each other, offering new ways to see, learn, and create.
Important: This is a talk-and-watercolour workshop, and you will need to bring your own watercolour materials. If you don't have any, we can lend you some for a small 5€ fee. In this case, don't forget to contact us before the event. Thank you.
