Join us monthly on the 2nd Wednesday at 3:00 PM for a free educational seminar targeting Blood Pressure Self-Management. Registered participants will also receive a free Heart Healthy Meal prepared by our Nutrition Kitchen.
The series will include topics such as:
DASH WAY OF EATING (March 11, July 8, November 11)
What you eat affects your chances of developing high blood pressure (hypertension). Research shows that high blood pressure can be prevented-and lowered-by following the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan, which includes eating less sodium.
LOWERING SODIUM INTAKE (April 8, August 12, December 9)
It's clear that Americans have a taste for salt, but salt plays a role in high blood pressure. Everyone, including kids, should reduce their sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day (about 1 teaspoon of salt). Adults age 51and older, African Americans of any age, and individuals with high blood pressure, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease should further reduce their sodium intake to 1,500 mg a day.
SHOPPING, PREPARING, & COOKING FOR BETTER BP MANAGEMENT (January 14, May 13, September 9)
Shopping, Preparing and Cooking for Better Blood Pressure Management will cover Nutrition and Blood Pressure Facts, Food labels and shopping for blood pressure friendly foods, How to prepare and cook food for better blood pressure management, Salts, Herbs and Spices.
HEART HEALTHY EATING (February 11, June 10, October 14)
This seminar will be a comprehensive overview of lifelong heart-healthy eating habits. The presentation will emphasize the importance of balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and sustainable lifestyle changes to support heart health. It will also address common myths and misconceptions about heart-healthy diets.
