We’re bringing back a former firehouse favorite, blindfold night! This is an exploration in connection as we remove our sense of sight and enjoy some cozy dances 🪐 There will be roving dance elves to help pair up partners if you want to fully drop into the experience and keep blindfolded between songs. We will have some blindfolds available but please bring one of your own if you have one (ties, sleep masks and bandanas are perfect for this). Late nights are always potlucks, feel free to bring a dish or NA beverage to share. What to expect:
Fusion dancing allows you to blend different dance styles together to create a unique experience with each partner. The lesson covers core principles of partner dance such as frame, connection and musicality, and how to use them to dance with partners of all different backgrounds. Our teachers come from a wide range of dances and bring their own flavor and skill set to each lesson for new content every class. No partner or prior dance experience is required.
6:50PM to 7:00PM - Check-in and begin warm-up
7:00PM to 8:00PM - All-levels fusion Lesson taught by Alex Cabaluna
8:00PM to 12:30AM - Social dance with THREE DJ’s Raven Wilson, Kenny Woldhagen & Sammie Anne McKibben
Lesson topic: Micro Switch Dancing - In preparation for the blindfold theme night, this class aims to build universal dance skills, regardless of primary role. This class will invite dancers to listen carefully to their dance partner without any visual or audio cues. Dancers will be asked to blend together what they know of leading and following roles and use points of connection as the sole means of communication. We will also work on being aware of the space we occupy in partnership and how to minimize risk with moves while blindfolded.
Cost:
$10 for the lesson
$15-20 sliding scale for the social dance
$20-25 sliding scale for the lesson + social dance
Please bring:
- Your photo ID
- Proof of your Covid-19 vaccination, a hard copy of your card or your CA digital vaccination record QR are both accepted. Find your QR here: https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/
-A water bottle, we have a refill station, let’s be sustainable!
- Comfortable clothing and shoes you can move in easily. Comfort is key!
-Theme nights are potlucks, bring a dish or non-alcoholic beverage to share 😛
