In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, both Memorial United Methodist Church and Snow Hill United Methodist Church of Franklin, North Carolina will hold a Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, October 5. Memorial UMC will hold their event from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Snow Hill UMC will hold their event from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
WHAT: The Blessing of the Animals provides an opportunity to celebrate God’s creation and to celebrate our faithful companions. The United Methodist Church acknowledges that “A Blessing of Animals witnesses to God's and the Church's love, care, and concern for creation. As we recognize our mutual interdependence with God's creatures, the Church's witness of stewardship of creation is strengthened.”
WHO: Macon County residents are invited to bring their beloved pets of all shapes and sizes are welcome to join us in this celebration. Stuffed animals, dogs, cats, and other animals (furry, hairless, scaled, or winged) who have brought you joy and connection are welcome to receive blessings. If your pet is reactive or traumatized, please just bring their photo for a blessing. Those who have suffered the loss of their pet and are grieving are invited to bring a photo of their pet for prayer.
WHERE:
Memorial UMC will hold their event from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. outdoors in the rear parking area of the church. The address of Memorial UMC is 4668 Old Murphy Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
Snow Hill UMC will hold their event from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. outdoors near the shelter in the back of the church. The address of Snow Hill UMC is 330 Snow Hill Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Every pet will receive a certificate recognizing their blessing. Photographs will be taken of pets, including stuffed animals, with their guardians and will be posted on the Facebook page of the church, Snow Hill or Memorial, where the event took place.
