BLADE, Opening 2 July

Dear ,
We are pleased to invite you to the opening of 44 Artists, 44 Blades, a group exhibition bringing together 44 visual artists around one charged and enduring object: the sword.
Across history, the sword has moved between warfare, ritual, ornament, myth and image. It has been a weapon, a status symbol, a relic, a character, a fantasy and a screen icon. No single form has ever fully defined it. Instead, the sword has continually changed shape according to culture, function, style and imagination.
For this exhibition, each artist was invited to bring a sword into the gallery. The result is a collection of distinct responses to an object that carries both historical weight and symbolic excess: elegant, violent, ceremonial, fictional, absurd, sacred, ornamental, animated or alive in spirit.
The exhibition opens on Thursday, July 2nd at 18:00 at DMW Gallery, Koolstraat 15, 2140 Borgerhout.
We would be glad to welcome you there.
