blackwood.street is a project led by clarinetist and composer Luka Kastelic, built around his distinct musical vision. The Berlin-based ensemble explores the fusion of contemporary jazz with elements of broken beat, hip-hop, and other beat-driven styles.
The name reflects its essence: “Blackwood” symbolizes the dark, rich organic tones of instruments crafted from African Blackwood. “Street” represents a vibrant space where ideas and styles meet and evolve.
Much like streetwear, blackwood.street is about creating a mood, expressing personality, and embracing individuality through unique and unexpected combinations.
This also reflects the streets of Berlin—a melting pot where diverse influences come together, from chamber music to modern beat-driven styles, shaping a dynamic and evolving soundscape.
