About this Event
Step back in time and into the future with this unique, hands-on class that combines traditional blacksmithing with modern laser engraving. You'll begin by forging steel hooks using old-world techniques, then shift to high-tech as you laser-engrave a custom wood backer. By the end of the class, you'll have created your own personalized, one-of-a-kind wall-mounted hook rail.
What You'll Learn:
Blacksmithing basics (approximately 5 hours with the forge): Learn essential techniques like tapering, bending, and twisting steel by hand.
Laser cutting fundamentals (approximately 45 minutes): Learn about CO2 lasers and discover how easy it is to laser-engrave a custom backplate for your project.
Project Overview:
Under step-by-step guidance, you’ll craft a fully functional and unique hook rail, beginning on the path of both metalworking and laser engraving along the way.
No Experience Necessary:
This class is perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike, offering small class sizes and personalized instruction to ensure you get the most out of the experience.

Closed toe leather shoes, Ear Protection, Eye Protection, Full cotton only clothing (no synthetic materials!!!), Water bottle
About the Instructors
Sergey's blacksmithing journey ignited during his inaugural class at the Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center, where the first swing of the hammer captivated him. Since that transformative moment, he has passionately dedicated himself to the art of blacksmithing. Focusing on creating practical objects for everyday use, such as ornate garden trellises and culinary tools, he is driven by a desire to share his knowledge and passion for blacksmithing. He believes that the preservation and proliferation of traditional crafts are vital for fostering creativity, resilience, and a deeper connection to our past.
Brad Ferguson, the CNC router shop manager at Twin Cities Maker, is always eager to help others bring their creative ideas to life.
