About this Event
Many consider forge welding to be an advanced skill, however, it’s actually a basic, fundamental skill of blacksmithing. In this class, students will make a simple fire poker, incorporating two forge welds. After completion of the project, we’ll discuss and demonstrate additional types of welds.
As with any type of welding, safety is of the utmost importance. Students MUST wear long pants, a removable long sleeve cotton shirt, solid leather gloves, and bring safety glasses. We also encourage you to bring a water bottle. Instruction is for 7 hours from 9-12 and 1-5. We have scheduled a one-hour lunch break so that students will have the opportunity to explore the site. Lunch is not provided, please bring your own. Please arrive at 8:45 to sign a liability waiver.
This class is appropriate for those aged 16 and up. The class limit is 4 students. Students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, although the adult is not required to be a paying student. In which case they should remain outside of the smithy. Tuition is $150 per student plus a $10 materials fee due to the instructor on the day of the class. Advanced registration is required. Students can purchase tickets online or by calling the Hagood Mill at 864.898.2936. No refunds will be made after the start date of the class.
