Blackjack & Paella: An Evening with Reddy Vineyards

A Texas wine night that doesn't sit still.

Volume three of Fifty Shades of Grape, A Texas Wine Series, brings six pours from Reddy Wines, one of the most important producers working the Texas High Plains, to the cellar at Vintage Wine Storage. Paella served family-style. A blackjack table that runs the length of the night.

The night

Six wines from Reddy Wines, walked through with confidence and without lecture. Paella served family-style during the tasting. A blackjack table open from the moment doors swing; rotate in, rotate out, play one hand or twenty. The tournament window opens at 8:00, when hands start counting toward the prize.

The prize

The strongest player at the table walks out with the 2020 Reddy Wines 25th Anniversary Proprietary Blend, a Petit Verdot from the High Plains, released to mark twenty-five years of family-owned winemaking. Inky purple in the glass. Aromatic notes of lilacs, violets, and sweet dark fruits. Layered with black cherry, blackberry, plum, fig, and sage. Built to cellar for the next ten to fifteen years.

Only 82 cases were ever produced.

The winner also takes two tickets to June's Texas Wine Series and a private tasting at Reddy Wines.

Vintage Wine Storage is the cellar Austin's serious wine collectors trust with their bottles. We don't open it often. May 15 is one of those nights.
