About this Event
Black Voices in Democracy (BC Black Political Empowerment Summit 2025)
The BC Black Advocacy Society proudly presents "Black Voices in Democracy," a groundbreaking political summit to empower Black leadership and political participation in British Columbia. This one-day intensive summit will occur on February 15, 2025, from 9 AM to 4 PM at Thea's Lounge, UBC Vancouver Campus.
The summit features an exceptional lineup of speakers, headlined by BC Premier David Eby delivering the keynote address. Distinguished speakers include Deputy Premier and Attorney General Niki Sharma, MLA George Anderson, Maple Ridge Councillor Dozie Onyeka, and academic leaders Dr. Ainsley Carry and Dr. Yabome Gilpin-Jackson from UBC and SFU, respectively.
Participants will engage in crucial discussions and workshops covering the complete spectrum of political engagement, from understanding BC's political landscape to practical sessions on community organizing and local political involvement. The summit will focus on developing a Black Policy Agenda and creating strategies for enhanced electoral participation. A special Youth in Politics Forum will address the next generation of leaders, and the Summit will also provide valuable networking opportunities with current Black political leaders.
