About this Event

Soil Sanctuary, a garden stewarded by a community of Black women and non-binary folks in North Durham, lovingly invites you to our first event as a collective. Come celebrate, break bread, drop your shoulders, touch soil, and build with us.

This will be a nourishing, sacred space led that will bring us all in deeper connection with ourselves, each other, the Land, and Spirit.

This event centers African, Black, Caribbean and Diasporic folks, but welcomes allies of color.

Event Highlights:

🌿 Garden Tour & Plant Walk w/ Raquel @ibelieveinsoil where you’ll learn about the journey of our garden, growing your own food and medicinal herbs, and the long history of African/Black agrarian practices.

🍛 Gullah Geechee Garden Meal + Potluck w/ Sawdayah @africanherbsmaam will whip up a traditional low country meal within ingredients from the garden, especially those that came from her family. Bring snacks and goodies to share

🎨 Art Projects w/ Dawn and Adenike Using materials from the garden/land. You’ll take something home!

🌼 Herbal Workshop w/ Alexis @kongo.cafe will help us build our knowledge and sacred connection with herbal medicine.

🧘🏾 Kid Friendly Yoga w/ Nia @healingusevergreen Beginner, accesible, and relaxing poses for all.
