Join us for an exclusive screening of the documentary film, Black Motherhood through the Lens. Followed by a speaker panel & virtual talk from filmmaker Dr. Adeiyewunmi (Ade) Osinubi.

Doors 6pm, Film starts 6:30p.

The Film:

"Black Motherhood through the Lens is about four Black women's experiences navigating the reproductive and maternal healthcare system from conception to postpartum. The women in this series have experienced miscarriage, lack of access to infertility care, fears about childbirth, and postpartum depression. It features the stories of Shaylene, Shannon, Ijeoma, and Jai-Me, who despite these challenges, boldly pursued their dreams of Black motherhood."

The Speakers:

  • Dr. Adeiyewunmi (Ade) Osinubi: "Dr. Adeiyewunmi (Ade) Osinubi is a documentary filmmaker, photographer, and an Emergency Medicine Resident Physician. Her work focuses on sharing the stories of minority populations that often go untold. At the age of 16, Ade travelled to Mekelle, Ethiopia to co-produce her first documentary. Since then, Ade has produced films educating the public about various health topics in an accessible way. She has written for the Washington Post and Glamour Magazine on topics related to health equity. Her work on the film was also recently recognized in Forbes and PBS amongst other places and she was the recipient of the 2022 National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) 40 under 40 Leader in Health Award. In the future, Ade hopes to pursue a career in health journalism, using her passion for photography and film to elevate the voices of communities of color."
  • Dina Johnson MS, MFT-LP: Dina serves as a mental health therapist at His Branches Community Health Center. She is the Founder of Monroe County Family Coalition, a nonprofit which connects families to community resources. She is the CEO of DJ Collaboratives, LLC, which focuses on mentoring and life coaching for young girls and adults. She currently serves as a member of the Monroe County Board of Health. In addition, she is a Sr. Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator at URMC Golisano General Pediatrics and a Consultant for the University of Rochester School of Nursing.
  • LaKeisha Washington MPA, CD(DONA), IBCLC: LaKeisha is a lactation consultant, doula, and placenta encapsulation specialist and the owner of Flower City Lactation & Doula Services
  • Sean Smith: Sean is a personal trainer former Baltimore police officer, and owner of Baddass Bodies by Sean. She has a long-standing history of community service and has experience walking with women in their birthing journeys.

Directions:

Find our parking lot and entrance in the courtyard off Flint Street between Exchange Street and the Genesee River. Go to the entrance located next to the purple mural with the butterfly in women's face. A greeter will direct you to the gymnasium.
