The New York Times–bestselling author, attorney, and CNN political analyst Bakari Sellers comes to the Missouri History Museum for a dynamic conversation with Lyah LeFlore-Ituen, Director of the African American History Initiative. Drawing from his acclaimed memoir My Vanishing, Sellers will explore the enduring connections between the Black South and Black St. Louis—stories of families, institutions, and communities that shaped both local and national history. Together, Sellers and LeFlore-Ituen will examine the legacy of Black leadership in St. Louis, the ongoing pursuit of justice and political power, and what history can teach us about meeting today’s challenges.
Part of the African American History Initiative’s Black Literary Legacies Series, this event connects literature, history, and contemporary life through a compelling conversation about leadership, belonging, and the future of Black America. Grounded in the history of Black St. Louis and informed by Sellers’ acclaimed writing and public leadership, this conversation connects local history to national movements and invites audiences to consider the role each of us plays in shaping the future.
