Join us for an afternoon of music storytelling and celebration at Black Joy! Celebrating Black Excellence in Opera and Art Song a vibrant brunch performance at City Winery Boston. This program expands on last year’s acclaimed Opera Art Song and the Harlem Renaissance bringing together extraordinary artists to highlight the richness and diversity of Black musical traditions.

This year’s program centers on love joy and the full breadth of the Black experience.

As tenor Fred VanNess shares:

"I am excited to focus on Black Joy. Oftentimes when we are asked to sing music by Black composers the focus is on Black struggle and how we overcame but that’s not the totality of our existence. I’m excited to share stories of love and joy."

Audiences will be treated to a powerful and uplifting selection of opera art song and musical theater performed by some of the region’s finest artists. Set against the backdrop of City Winery’s intimate atmosphere this event is an opportunity to experience the beauty and brilliance of Black artistry in a welcoming and celebratory space.
