Celebrate SONGS OF BLACK FOLK (2025) and THE PEOPLE COULD FLY (2025) in community with filmmakers, participants, and cultural organizations
About this Event
  • (2025) unites top Black musical talent on one Pacific Northwest stage, launching a powerful new tradition and era for Black artists against the meaningful backdrop of Juneteenth. The film celebrates the richness of Black musical expression and the communal power of song. Co-produced with LA Times Short Docs.
  • (2025) explores the history of Black gathering spaces in Louisville, KY from the 1960s through the mid-2000s. Through intimate video portraits, archival footage, and still photography, the film reveals how roller rinks became sanctuaries for Black culture—sites of joy, ritual, and resistance in the face of segregation. Co-produced with Chicken & Egg Films.

The event will feature a post-screening panel discussion with special guests from the film teams and Juneteenth NY.
