About this Event

Black Art Collectors: Preserving Our Legacy
A Black History Month Exhibition at the Aspire Center

Event Description

Black art has always been preserved by the people.

This Black History Month, the Aspire Center presents Black Art Collectors: Preserving Our Legacy, a month-long exhibition honoring Black collectors who have safeguarded Black art, Black Americana, and folk traditions across generations.

This exhibition centers Black people not only as artists, but as collectors, archivists, and cultural stewards—individuals and families who have intentionally collected, preserved, and passed down Black art within our communities.

Exhibition Dates

📅 February 1 – February 28
📍 Aspire Center

Opening Reception: February 1
Additional programming, conversations, and gatherings will be announced throughout the month.

How to Participate

We invite collectors to engage with the exhibition in one of the following ways:

  • Loan artwork to be exhibited for the month
  • Donate artwork to become part of the Aspire Center’s permanent display
  • Offer artwork for sale, with 100% of proceeds donated to support the Aspire Center

Details on submission guidelines, timelines, and artwork handling contact Rosie Dawson at 773-573-6920.

Why This Exhibition Matters
