About this Event
Southampton, UK – September 23rd, 2024 – Black History Month South is proud to announce the official launch event of this year's Black History Month, scheduled for September 23rd at St. Mary's Fire Station in Southampton. The theme for this year, "Reclaiming the Narrative,"and marks a significant shift towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture.
Our keynote speaker on the day is the esteemed Festus Akinbusoye, the first black Police & Crime Commissioner. As a prominent figure in community leadership and an advocate for social justice, Mr. Akinbusoye will bring invaluable insights and reflections on the importance of reclaiming and reshaping the narratives that define Black history and identity in Britain.
We are honored to welcome back Aflo the Poet as our special guest. Known for her compelling and evocative and entertaining spoken word performances, Aflo's artistry captures the essence of the Black experience, resonating deeply with audiences and enriching the cultural dialogue.
