About this Event
Black Girls Hike: Seven Sisters Cliff Walk - Sussex
Saturday 13th June 2026
Meeting time: 10am
Difficulty: Hard (due to inclines and distance)
Distance: Approx 20km
Duration: Approx 6 - 8 hours
Meeting point will be sent in confirmation email please ensure you check correspondance.
A jewel of the UK coastline, the Seven Sisters cliffs are part of a magnificent stretch of coastline between Seaford and Eastbourne. The area is designated and protected as a ‘Heritage Coast’ and is the finest example of unprotected chalk cliffs in Britain.
Terrain: This is a challenging walk of around 11–13 miles, with several steep inclines. It typically takes 6-8 hours to complete, so at least a moderate level of fitness is recommended.
There is also a part of the walk where we may wade through a shallow river, so bring a small towel to dry off and flip flops/crocs if you have sensitive feet.
What to Wear & Bring:
- Supportive walking footwear
- Weather-appropriate layers (woodland areas can feel cooler)
- Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen (if warm weather)
- Flip flops/crocs if you have sensitive feet (for river crossing)
- Towel
- 1.5–2 litres of water
- Packed lunch and snacks - We will stop at Birling Gap approximately three hours into the walk, which will also be our first toilet stop. There is an indoor café that serves food and hot and cold beverages.
Toilets: Toilets available at the beginning of the walk and around halfway through, as above.
Transport : Participants will need to make their own way to the starting point in Seaford, where we will gather outside of Seaford train station. We will return home from Eastbourne, both in East Sussex, after the walk. If you plan on driving you can park in Eastbourne and get a local train to Seaford for the starting point. If booking train tickets in advance, which is recommended, we also advise you purchase a flexible return tickets as the time it takes to complete the walk is approximate.
Parking: Paid parking is available.
This event will be led by a BGH trained walk leader. Please note that the leader does not hold a Mountain Leader qualification, and participation is therefore at your own discretion and risk.
