About this Event
Black Girls E.S.T.E.E.M is brought to you by RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone X Ontario Tech Engineering.
Black Girls E.S.T.E.E.M is a free in-person STEAM workshop created to inspire, educate, and empower Black girls (ages13-16) through coding, wellness, and real-world tech exploration. This event was designed in response to ongoing conversations about the lack of programming for Black girls in STEAM and the importance of strengthening both self-esteem and representation in STEAM fields.
This experience brings together hands-on coding through Ontario Tech Engineering’s youth program and wellness-centered activities led by RiseUp powered by Kids Help Phone. Participants will not only build practical skills in coding and digital creation, but also engage in meaningful conversations about self-esteem, imposter syndrome, and seeing themselves in STEAM careers.
The event is designed to create space for Black girls to learn, try, and grow—while building confidence in both who they are and what they can create.
This workshop will feature:
- Group wellness activities and grounding practices
- Small group sharing circles in a brave space
- A short keynote from a Black woman in STEAM
- Hands-on coding using Scratch
- Interactive career-building digital projects
- Affirmation and reflection activities to close the day
- Lunch, snacks, and water will be provided throughout the event
Through guided learning and community connection, participants will explore coding fundamentals such as loops, variables, and functions while building an interactive career-based project that highlights representation in STEM.
By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with new technical skills, strengthened confidence, and a deeper sense of what is possible for them in STEAM fields.
All skill levels welcome!
