Black girl follows the story of a young Senegalese woman who moves to France to work for a wealthy white family and finds that life in their small apartment becomes a Pr*son, both figuratively and literally—into a complexly layered critique of the lingering colonialist mind-set of a supposedly postcolonial world. Featuring a moving central performance by M’Bissine Thérèse Diop, Black Girl is a harrowing human drama as well as a radical political statement—and one of the essential films of the 1960s
The Anfield People's Cinema Festival which will take place over 24th-27th September in venues across the community. This festival is the result of over 20 local volunteers coming together to make something great happen in our local area. To check out the wider programme please visit the link here
Anfield People’s Cinema is a volunteer-run film club which hosts free-to-attend cinema events in venues across our area of Anfield and surrounding neighbourhoods. Our goal is to make bring people together to enjoy and celebrate the magic of films on a big screen.
As with all our screenings there will be a free hot meal for all attendees provided upon arrival as well as a range of refreshements throughout the evening.
This screening is free to attend but we do accept donations at the end of the evening. Any money raised helps us to continue putting on these cinema events in Anfield and covers costs such film liscences, food and marketting.
