About this Event
A Celebration of Cooperative Black Brooklyn!
The Central Brooklyn Food Coop and RiseBoro present BLACK FOOD RISING, a celebration of the cultural legacy of Black cooperativism and food in Central Brooklyn.
On May 18th at Weeksville Heritage Center, a historical landmark of free Black communities, Black Food Rising will bring neighbors together to share in a community meal provided by the Central Brooklyn Food Democracy Project’s ecosystem of cooperative Black food businesses. The event will feature themed activities for children and adults, food, art, music and more.
Black Food Rising will feature:
- A large community meal featuring African diasporic food from the Central Brooklyn Food Democracy co-ops
- Black & cooperative community vendors
- Guest speakers, music, and cultural activities
- Opportunities to learn about wellness, solidarity economies, and food sovereignty
