About this Event
Black, Brown and Progressive Creatives Under Trump 2.0
Join us in person for a vibrant Open Mic gathering of Black, Brown, and progressive creatives navigating the challenges under Trump 2.0.
Art. Truth. Freedom. Under Pressure.
Black, Brown, and leftist intellectuals, writers, journalists, poets, musicians, and nearly everyone in the world of arts and creativity are facing escalating challenges under what many critics describe as the climate of Trump 2.0.
The recent pressure on the Southern Poverty Law Center is one example cited by civil rights advocates who warn that institutions documenting hate, extremism, and discrimination are being targeted in ways that threaten their ability to operate freely.
Artists and thinkers across the country report a growing atmosphere of intimidation — from funding cuts and public vilification to heightened scrutiny of cultural institutions. Many say these pressures are designed to silence dissent, weaken watchdog organizations, and narrow the space for critical thought.
Yet the creative community has always been a frontline of resistance. Across cities, campuses, and cultural spaces, people are organizing, speaking, writing, performing, and refusing to be quiet. They remind us that art is not a luxury — it is a form of truth‑telling, a record of struggle, and a tool of collective survival.
This Open Mic for Anacostia calls on:
- Artists, poets to unite in defense of free expression
- Writers and journalists to continue documenting what others want erased
- Communities to protect the institutions that protect them
- Allies to stand with those targeted for speaking the truth.
**Silence is not an option. Creativity is not a crime.
