BACKGROUND

Black Breastfeeding Week 2026:

Black Breastfeeding Week will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2026 under the theme "We All We Got: 15 Years of Community Care and Collective Power."

• Founded in 2012: Established by pioneers Kimberly Seals Allers, Kiddada Green, and Anayah Sangodele-Ayoka to tackle the significant racial disparities in infant feeding and maternal health.
• The "Black Breastfeeding Disparity": Traditionally, Black infants in the United States have experienced markedly lower breastfeeding rates than their white counterparts, influenced by a combination of factors such as historical trauma, aggressive marketing of formula targeted at Black families, implicit biases within the healthcare system, and insufficient culturally relevant lactation support.
• Purpose: Created as a focused and specialized platform to transform the cultural narrative, advance health equity, address the alarming rates of infant and maternal mortality, and honor the autonomy and joy of Black families.

The Family Wellness Suites: The Family Wellness Suites are a safe, welcoming and supportive space for birthing people and their families to connect to community resources and city agency services. We can refer you to services that will help you and your family avoid eviction, enroll in health insurance and find employment. Pregnancy services include health education workshops, childbirth education and newborn care classes, parenting journey classes, pre and post natal massage, and referrals.
