Black Bear Lunch and Learn

The Volusia County Explore Volusia program invites you to climb aboard the eco-buggy with Volusia County Environmental Specialist Tommy Nordmann and FWC Bear Biologist Ashley Jackson. After a short walk from the parking lot to the eco-buggy, participants will take a tour of Longleaf Pine Preserve. Participants will then enjoy a presentation about Florida black bears while eating lunch at the campsite pavilion.

** Important note: Please arrive 15 minutes prior to complete a waiver. Waivers must be completed in full to participate in the program. Waivers can be downloaded at Explore Volusia and completed ahead of time.

ACTIVITY: The tour will take place on a hay-ride style, covered trailer with benches. There will be some easy, short walks including a 1/8-mile walk to the eco-buggy from the parking lot.

RESERVATIONS: Required. Unless you have a confirmation email, you are not registered.

TICKETS: No printed ticket is necessary.

AGES: All ages are welcome.

ATTIRE: closed-toe shoes that can get muddy and wet and comfortable clothing for the outdoors

** Some of our trails have mud and/or standing water because they are located in wetland ecosystems and because of seasonal rains and high tides. We recommend you bring a pair of waterproof boots in addition to your regular hiking shoes if you don't want your shoes to get wet. Our hike leader will let you know the condition of the trails prior to the start of the hike.

WHAT TO BRING: lunch, water, sunscreen, and bug spray

FACILITIES: There is a port-a-let at the pavilion but no running water on site.
