Black Angels and Red Death traces the shadows of war and human tragedy—its loss, chaos, and lingering ghosts. Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin honours friends lost in World War I, George Crumb’s Black Angels plunges into the nightmare of the Vietnam War, with eerie, amplified strings, gongs and wine glasses. Caplet’s Conte Fantastique spins a ghostly tale of fate and terror, while Tchaikovsky’s Adagio Lamentoso offers a final, mournful farewell. This is music that stays with you long after the last note.
